A Beautiful Star Block

This beautiful block arrived in the mail today from Staci!  I love the star pattern - it sets off each of the fabrics perfectly.  Staci also included almost two yards of the coordinating blue fabric in the picture.  So very generous of you, Staci, and definitely not expected.  Thank you, Staci!!!!!!

Ruffled Wonky

Saturday's mail brought me another beautiful block!  This creative block was designed by Lana.  She calls this wonderful block "Ruffled Wonky".  I hope you can click on it to enlarge it so you can see all of the little blocks used in making this block.  Thank you, Lana!!  (I'm sorry that the picture is a little dark)

Two More Beauties

This beautiful block was made by Wendy.  It is called Borrow and Lend from http://www.quilterscache.com/.  Doesn't this block highlight each of the fabrics wonderfully?  Thank you, Wendy!

This amazing block was made by Robyn.  She said that it measured 1/8" short on each side.  When I meaured it, it came out to 12 1/2" perfectly.  I really like the design of this block!  Thank you, Robyn

This reminds me..... Please remember to include the name of your block when you mail your block to your partner this month.  And if you designed it yourself, please let us that, too.   I forgot to include that in the monthly assignment letter.

Sneak peek for Linda

Here is a little sneak peek at a block I designed and called 'Flor Linda'.  I may be a little late sending it as I have been sick and may not get to mail it until Saturday.
This has been fun!  I can't wait to see what is coming up this next month.

Happy Envelopes

Yesterday I received three more Happy Envelopes in the mail.

This wonderful block was made by Anna.  This is a really pretty design!  Unfortunately, the picture just does not show off Anna's work properly.  Thank you, Anna!

This beautiful block was made by Carolyn.  Hopefully you can enlarge it to see all of the tiny 1" blocks that  were used to make this block.  Thank you, Carolyn!

This awesome block was made by Melinda.  It is a totally hand sewn hexie design.  Melinda had to use her own white on white for the background square.  Thank you, Melinda!

All of the blocks are going to make such a wonderful quilt!!

Tuesday's Mail Call

Look what the mailman brought to my door on Tuesday!  Four more beautiful and creative blocks!!!

This wonderful block was created by Jadie.  I think it is an original design.  I love the double border.  Snickerdoodle decided this block was hers.  Thank you, Jadie!

This beautiful block was sent to me by Debra.  She added some of her own white on white to create the border.  Doesn't this block snap?  She also included a wonderful little note and a great fat quarter.  I haven't seen this print before - it is a super addition to my stash.  Thank you, Debra!

Bailey sent me this beautiful block.  She said that she had some difficulty with the size but after adding a strip to two of the sides it is just perfect.  I think this block will be a wonderful addition to the quilt I will be making.  Thank you, Bailey!

Tamera made this beautiful block for me.  She also added some of her own white on white to get the contrast she wanted for this block.  Perfect points in this one.  Tamera included a nice little note with a cute little bird on the front.  Thank you, Tamera!

It never ceases to amaze me how each block is totally unique - either by design or how the colors are used.  I get so excited when the mail comes bringing large envelopes my way.  I sit and study each block and admire all of the work that has gone into creating them.  Thank you everyone, for making my soon to be quilt a reality!!

A Little Look for Linda

Finally decided on the block for Linda, then I had to make a test block just to be sure before I started cutting into fabric that wasn't mine.  (This is only my second bee/swap block ever and I was a little nervous.) I didn't realize what a challenge it would be to come up with a block that would not only fit the color and style of the fabric but also enough of each color for the block elements.  It was a fun challenge though and I hope Linda, that you'll be as pleased with the outcome as I am.  The fabrics you chose are SO pretty and I really enjoyed working with them.  I should be able to get this in the mail tuesday.

Block for Linda

I finally got to the post office today and put Linda's block into the mail system. Because of the ice and snow here in Atlanta we have not had mail service for over a week now but things are clearing up and hopefully after the MLK holiday, things will get back to normal - whatever that is.

Mailing List for February Bee

I have sent out an email to Tamera and Ann with the mailing list for their respective groups.  The two of  you need to let me know if you do not receive it (remember to check your spam folder).  Don't panic, you still have plenty of time to get your fabric out to members - I just wanted to give you plenty of advance warning and time to prepare.  I look forward to seeing what you will be having us create for you.

Sneak Peak!

So my Mom, Jadie, doesn't have a blog, so I am posting a sneak peak of her block for Linda. We had fun racking our brains on what to do with it (I know its supposed to be her making it, but we do a lot of things together!) She (and I) hope you like it Linda! (ps she mailed it out today, so you should be getting it soon!)

Blocks From Shannon, Melissa, & Charlene

It has been so much fun to peek into my mail box lately and find smushy envelopes addressed to me!

This beautiful block was made by Shannon.  She said that she had fun making this block and the Block Swap Adventure block that she sent me in the same envelope (smart thinking there!).  She also included a post card of Idaho which is in the photo I am sharing on BSA.  I like the arrangement of the fabrics.  Thank you, Shannon!!

This wonderful block is from Melissa.  She included the darling little note card that let me know that this is her 'first swap block ever'.  Well done, Melissa!  I'm sure your nerves will lessen with future blocks.  I like the way the blue travels around the center diamond.   Thank you, Melissa!!

This special block was made by Charlene S.  She included a note that said "The colors and florals are out of my usual color path.  It took me awhile to step out of the my 'self-imposed' box and see a block".  The arrangement of the different fabrics is perfect, Charlene!  Thank you!!

I had a thought after receiving these blocks.  In the future, when you are able to select any block you would like to make (like these), it would be nice to know the names of the blocks or if they are your original design.  What do you all think?

A Finish

I was so nervous to start this block. I've been doing a 'live' bee all of last year with a group of friends, but for some reason this was WAY more nerve wracking! I was excited to find a block pattern that was new and looked good. As I was piecing it together, I was even more excited that the points were coming together fairly nicely (although, not perfect in every instance).

Here's a sneak peek for Linda, your block will go in the mail tomorrow. I will be dedicating a post on my own blog in the next day or two if you're interested in reading about my experience.

I Have A Question Or Two

I'm Debra from Indiana and here goes, I'm a very new quilters and have a few questions. Is it ok to use starch on the fabrics for the bee? Some times the fabric seems so soft and I can sew it easier if it is stiffer. Is it acceptable for the quilt block to be sent and let the owner square it up? The reason I ask is when I received this fabric I looked and looked at it and every time it tried to cut it I got worried. Could I get more on Ebay or Etsy if I screwed it up? Is the rotary cutter (who is not my friend by the way) going to slip when I'm on my last step. I didn't think this bee would be so nervewracking when I signed up but I am hoping to learn alot along the way. Thanks for your help! My block will be in the mail tomorrow but no pic because the Hubs has my camera in Georgia and is currently snowed in.

My First LBT Block!

Hello all! Jorie here, from Beautiful Chaos. I finished Linda's block today! There were a few hiccups (let's just say I calculated all my measurements right, and then cut them wrong), but I resolved them all. While the finished block isn't exactly how I planned, I still think it's great. Linda, I hope you love it too!

Here is a little sneak peek:

I hope to have it in the mail by Friday at the latest! It is SLIGHTLY larger than 12.5", but I don't have a square ruler or a cutting mat large enough to hold it all (my mat is only 12x18--so I would have to move the block and reposition it-- and I am in the process of moving, so I'm holding off on buying a larger one just yet), so I am sending it without squaring/trimming it up. I hope you don't mind, but I am worried I will mess it up if I try!

Group B January Block

I was surprised to receive Linda's fabrics on Tuesday, but sat right down and whipped up a scrappy block just for her!  Used all the fabrics and had to add a little more white on white, but happy with the results.  I'm going to tease her with a sampling of the block....

Will be in the mail on Monday!

Happy New Year everyone!!
